Takeshi Shikama
Nato a Tokyo nel 1948, Takeshi Shikama si dedica alla fotografia dal 2002. Le foreste hanno attirato fin da subito la sua attenzione per le sue fotografie in grande formato. E' il "mondo invisibile", quello nascosto dietro il "visibile" che Shikama cerca di ritrarre. Il suo primo lavoro è stato pubblicato nel 2007 come Mori no Hida? Silent Respiration of Forests. Questo progetto è stato l'avvio di quello che è diventata la ricerca della sua vita. Nel 2008 lavora ad una nuova serie, Utsuroi - Evanescence, costituita da quattro parti: Foreste, Campi, Fiori di Lotus e Giardino. Nel 2009 aggiunge a queste una quinta parte: Paesaggi. Nel 2010, durante la realizzazione della serie Evanescence, inizia a lavorare con la carta giapponese prodotta a mano Gampi, impiegandola per le sue stampe al platino e palladio.
Ogni stampa è realizzata con una procedura molto delicata: la carta deve essere ricoperta a mano di emulsione e messa a contatto con il negativo per il processo di sviluppo. Anche nel processo di stampa si riflette l'interazione e la stretta relazione che Shikama sente con il soggetto delle sue fotografie. Nel 2009 viene invitato a Foto Triennale.dk e una sua personale viene presentata al Museo Johannes Larsen Kerteminde, Danimarca.
Viene selezionato tra i nove artisti per The PhotoFest International Discoveries II, Houston, Texas. Nel 2011 inizia un nuovo progetto scattando fotografie tra i paesaggi dello Yosemite National Park e Central Park a New York, negli Stati Uniti. Nel 2012 è invitato a partecipare a Noorderlicht Photofestival in Olanda. Aggiunge una nuova serie al progetto Urban Forest: Jardin du Luxemburg, Parigi e Central Park vol.2. Nel 2013 riceve il primo premio Jon Schueler Scholarship Award e partecipa alla residenza d'artista in Scozia, Sabhal Mor Ostaig presso il Centro culturale delle Arti del National Centre for Gaelic Language, Isle of Skye. Viene incluso, insieme ad altri due artisti, in“ Thoughts of the Forests”, Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts, Yamanashi, Japan. Inizia un nuovo capitolo del progetto Contremplation su antichi monoliti e paesaggi attraverso la Scozia e la regione della Galizia in Spagna. Realizza scatti a Fontainebleau e in Normandia, Francia. Nel 2014 espone cento lavori, incluse cinquanta nuove immagini sulla Galizia e la Scozia nella sua personale “Los Murmullos Del Bosque” al Museo di Arte Contemporanea a La Coruna, Spagna.
Crea due nuove serie intitolate Garden of Memory e Animals and Plants. Attualmente sta lavorando ad un nuovo progetto, Valley of Beauty, che contiene immagini scattate in Spagna, Italia e Francia.
